As personal owners of a number of tactical Ion body kits, we were really excited to get our hands on the latest milsim Ion body kit from Deadlywind. We were not disappointed! The Deadlywind DTI4 is every bit of what is claims to be on the manufacturer's website. Milled to perfection, the DTI4 is 13.5" of true tactical. Loaded with picatinny rails, this Deadlywind Ion body will accept just about any weaver based (picatinny) accessory such as a red dot sight, bipod, flashlight or laser. The DTI4 has a very convenient feature especially for original Ion owners. It includes a BOB (bolt out back) design which allow you to easily remove the bolt assembly from the rear of the marker without having to remove the trigger frame.
The Deadlywind DTI4 includes a low rise t-lock style feedneck. This tactical Ion body will work with both the original Ion and the Ion XE models. The DTI4 also accepts a rear 98 style stock. Assembly is standard for any replacement Ion body. Anyone who is familiar with the teardown of a Smart Parts Ion should make short work of the DTI4 install. For those you unfamiliar, Deadlywind Paintball has detailed DTI4 installation instuctions for both the Ion and Ion XE available on their website.
We tried the kit on one of our in-house Ions and we were more than satisfied. The fit and finish on these units are top-notch. We went with a standard Liberty 98 T6 stock, bipod and a side laser. Some guns and body kits can be picky when it comes to 98 stocks because their are slight differences between stock models. We only tried the T6 collapsible and the it was a tight and secure fit. You can add an offset mount or use one of the integrated side 45 degree rails for a top mounted scope or red dot sight. This will get you around the center mounted feedneck for a clear view of your 12 o'clock. We also tried a number of loaders on the included Deadlywind feedneck. From standard 200rd to Halo B to the new Invert TOO. The feedneck worked and provided a very secure grip with easy removal.
